Welcome to the Norfolk Constructing Excellence Awards 2021

Steve Murphy CEO of Net Zero Buildings. Steve will demonstrate how using forward thinking innovative technology to create high quality, energy efficient, off-site manufactured buildings, can reduce construction time, cost and environmental impact. Ed Gillespie is a British environmental entrepreneur, speaker, futurist, and author. His focus is on sustainability and innovation. He grew up in Norfolk, attending Norwich School. Afterwards he was a volunteer for Project Trust as a teacher in Above Rocks, Jamaica. He completed an BSc in marine biology at the University of Wales and continued in this discipline by undertaking a MSc in Marine Resource Development and Protection at Heriot-Watt University. After this his focus shifted to business as he enrolled in a Professional Masters in Leadership for Sustainable Development at Middlesex University, a course run by sustainable development charity Forum for the Future.

Adapting to a new way of working was the theme of the keynote presentation at the 2020 AGM it was self evident as the event was also our first ever online AGM and Seminar. Dr Wendy Jones and Prof Alistair Gibb shared their insight into how Covid-19 has created a step change in behaviours and techniques in the construction environment based on the research paper written in in conjunction with Loughborough University and a industry sponsors. We were joined by Hanah Corlett on the 10th November 2020. HNNA are a studio of urban designers and architects who combine practice and research to reconsider how cities are designed. Founding Director Hannah Corlett also teaches an MA in Architecture and Historic Urban Environments at The Bartlett (University College London). In her presentation Hannah will use HNNA’s Greenwich Design District Masterplan as a case study to open up discussion on the physical and economic scale of future cities, broader ways of encouraging innovation by challenging design guidance, and the need to engage with long term sustainable big picture strategies.
